The Cleveland Indians Win 4th in a Row

Aaron LaffeyAaron Laffey achieved two first this week. Laffey and his wife had their first child, and he got his first win of the year. Braeden Park Laffey was born at 10:42 a.m. Tuesday. Aaron got the win over over Toronto (3-1) at Progressive Field.

Laffey (1-2) has made 10 appearances this year, and has a 7.40 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians have pulled out 4 straight wins, matching their highest win streak of the year but are still 17 games below 500. Solid starting pitching, occasional power from the lineup and crisp and flexible relief pitching have been the key to this winning streak. Kerry Wood saved the first three games in the streak. Chris Perez did the honors with a 1-2-3 ninth Wednesday. It was his seventh save of the season and first since May 9. Perez opened the season at closer because Wood was injured.

Baring some miracle turn around, the Indians are looking at another disappointing season. Cleveland is in last place in the Central and 12.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins. They are competing with Baltimore for the prize of worst team in the AL, and have the 3rd worst recorded in the Major’s.

There was really no expectations going into this season, but injuries have hurt the tribe and they have not had the depth on the roster to carry them.

With the All Star break coming up, July 13th is the game, the Tribe needs to continue to build on this 4 game winning streak. The most important thing to do is to bounce back after a lose and not put a losing streak together like they had in June when they lost 11 of 12 putting them in the hole even deeper.

Today is also the last day to vote for the All Star roster. Shin-Soo Choo looks to be the only hope for Cleveland to be represented at the All Star festivities.
