Cooler Heads Prevail

The Cleveland Cavaliers today aided the Miami Yankees, er, Heat, by agreeing to a sign and trade deal for the newly crowned “Most Hated Man” in Cleveland. The Cavaliers will receive 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks, and $13 million worth of trade exemption. Essentially, the Cavs can make a trade, an have $13 million worth of free salary to use to get around the league mandated salary matches. The CBA dictates that each trade must have the total value of contracts or picks going from team to team be within 75% of each other. This is to prevent trades of old, where a player making large amounts of money was dealt for one making next to nothing, keep in mind, these terms are used in the context of pro sports, and not the context of what we think is “next to nothing”.

The Cavs are now free to go after other players. Names like Al Jefferson have been thrown out there. Time will tell what will be the next step for the Cavaliers.
